Tables vs. Div’s…

tablesvsdivs

Yes, you read right, “Tables vs. Div’s”… Most of you are wondering why there is even a reason to post this at all.. But basically, this post is just to get some input from some of you more “seasoned” professionals. Here is a bit of a background to the story here…

Lately i’ve been involved in a few conversations about tables being better than divs, due to them being more controllable. Obviously I disagree with this, having always been taught that tables are evil, and basically never to use them unless its absolutely necessary. This being said, I can basically count on one hand the amount of times in the last 3 years that I have had to use tables rather than div’s. I have used tables in the past, but we’re talking HTML, not XHTML in that case.

My goal by posting this is to hopefully get a general idea of what other people’s views on this are. I disagree right now that tables should be used for anything in today’s form of development, and that I have an easier time positioning div’s rather than tables, as well as controlling them overall. Let’s see if anyone can change my mind.

Post some comments, or email me directly, I’d like to get a bit of a debate going here since there are obviously some people who prefer tables over div’s.

Thanks. :D

its alive

Yes, I have yet again re-designed my website, this time I have integrated my template into Wordpress.

I welcome, and appreciate any comments that anyone might be able to give. I know there might be a small fix here or there, I am still tweaking slightly, trying to perfect certain areas at the same time as I am familiarizing myself with Wordpress. Also, Thank you Andrew for the PHP work on the integration, I appreciate it!

I look forward to seeing some comments.. Thanks.

DesignSnack

Design Snack is a great website which showcases many different designs which are added to the website for several different reasons. One of them being to show off your work in a sort of portfolio which allows visitors to like or dislike your site, and comment on it as well.

I have been using Design Snack now for some time now, to find inspiration for different websites that I have been involved in designing. I find it great to see what people are currently using for certain types of websites ranging from retro, grunge, corporate or even just personal portfolios & blogs. Obviously while using a site like this for inspiration, copying the design is not intended so I do not suggest doing so. This tends to make the designer quite angry, and can result in a potential lawsuit.

Design Snack has sections for HTML/CSS based websites or Flash based sites. The ability to set up a profile and save websites to view later is also available, this is great if you are browsing on lunch and wish to come back later on to have another look at a particular design you were slowly falling in love with. Submitting a design is simple as well, sign up, and submit a portfolio item by uploading a screenshot of your website. Your screenshot can be cropped accordingly toward specific areas on your site, etc.

My personal posting is currently located here: Nickburd.com – Design Snack Please feel free to comment, or rate my posting. Rating will help move my website up the ranks to allow it to be more viewed by others. Thank you in advance.
